Plain-language on purpose. This is the deal between you and us; it should be readable by a person, not only by a lawyer.

1. Using our sites means you accept these terms

If you do not accept them, please do not use the sites. If you use a specific product with its own additional terms (Satohash has a longer, product-specific version), those add to these.

2. Who we are

The Give A Bit family: a small independent group building Bitcoin-native tools. We are not a registered company and we have no office — no legal entity has been named yet. Where a legal name or a governing law is required, this document shows [ENTITY: none registered yet] and [GOVERNING LAW: TBD] rather than making one up.

3. What we provide — and what we do not

Our sites are information, education and software tools. Specifically:

• Not financial advice. Nothing here is investment, trading, tax or accounting advice. Bitcoin and Lightning carry real risk, including total loss.
• Not legal advice. SherpaCarta is a declaration — a moral and civic document. It is not law and is not enforceable (it says so itself). OpenStrata is workflow information for BC strata, not legal or professional advice.
• Not professional advice of any kind — engineering, medical, whatever. It is software and general information.
• Numbers we show may be illustrative. Where a page says data is synthetic, demo, or a model, it is. Do not build a decision on a demo figure.
• "As is", no warranty. The software is open source and provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose.

4. Your responsibility

• You hold your own keys. We cannot recover a lost seed phrase, reverse a Bitcoin transaction, or refund sats sent to the wrong address. Bitcoin transactions are final.
• Verify before you rely. Check any proof, figure, or agent output independently before acting on it.
• Do not misuse the sites — no attacking them, no scraping that degrades them, no using them to break the law, no trying to harm other users.

5. Money: donations vs. paid services (important, and precise)

The word matters, so we are exact about it:

• Today everything is free, and every sats rail we run is a voluntary donation — a tip with nothing promised in return. Calling it a donation is correct and honest.
• If a feature ever becomes paid, we will call that a subscription or a purchase, not a donation — because payment for a feature creates a real contract with consumer rights attached (refunds, cancellation, clear pricing).
• We will never label a paid feature a "donation". That would be misleading, and it is exactly the kind of thing this document exists to prevent.
• Paid tiers, prices, refunds and uptime commitments are all forward-looking: they are not in effect until they are actually launched, announced, and priced on the site.

6. AI agents

Some content is produced or maintained by AI agents under the @giveabit.io identity.

• Agents are not people, not advisors, and not liable parties.
• Their output may be wrong — treat it as a draft, not an authority.
• Their published actions are signed and can be independently verified.
• They cannot enter contracts or commit us to anything on your behalf.
• Anything a human has not signed off is not a promise.

7. Timestamping and proof products (Satohash)

• We anchor a cryptographic fingerprint (SHA-256) of your document. Your file stays on your device; we cannot read what we never receive.
• A timestamp proves when a piece of data existed, not who created it, not that its contents are true, and not that anyone else agrees with it.
• A "pending" confirmation is not a confirmed Bitcoin anchor. Wait for confirmed.
• Do not rely on a timestamp as your only evidence where the stakes are high.

8. Open source

Our code is open source (Apache 2.0 or MIT unless a repository says otherwise). You may read it, fork it, and verify our claims. The licence in each repository governs the code.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows: we, our contributors and our agents are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the sites, the tools, or the information — including lost data, lost funds, missed opportunities, or reliance on anything published here. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us, which today is zero.

Nothing here removes rights you have under mandatory consumer law in your country.

10. Governing law and disputes

Until that is named: talk to us first, at hello@giveabit.io. Most disagreements are misunderstandings, and we would rather fix one than fight one.

11. Changes to the service or these terms

We may change, pause, or retire a site or feature. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we bump the version and date at the top and note it on the HQ dashboard. Continuing to use the sites after a change means you accept the updated terms.
